After 43 years on Columbia Road, the time has come for us to hang up our aprons, fold away our corkscrews and retire.

Laxeiro will be calling the last service on May 2nd 2025.

It has been an incredible journey, and we are deeply grateful to all our customers, staff, friends, and family who’ve supported us over the past four decades. Your love and loyalty have meant the world to us.

Though this chapter has come to an end, the memories we’ve shared around our tables will live on. Thanks to each and every one of you for being part of our story.

As the next chapter starts, we are both excited about what lies ahead, new ideas and future projects with Laxeiro. Watch this space for what is coming…

It has been an honour and a pleasure to serve what to us is simply the greatest community in the country.

Gracias
Isabel y Eduardo

…Some Thank-Yous

There are many, many thank yous to give. Firstly, thank you to the amazing people who, over the years, formed the best teams in the restaurant business, creating incredible food and serving our customers every day.

Thank you to our neighbours. This has always been a special neighbourhood, and the community around us has only ever shown warmth and love to us.

The biggest thank you goes to our customers.  Thank you for the birthday celebrations, first dates and second dates, anniversaries and wedding lunches.  Thank you for the family reunions, the friends reunited and business lunches. Thank you for the flower market aperitifs, the wine tasting nights, Christmas Wednesdays and the late night takeouts, the early bird breakfasters and the one last drinkers.
Graciñas a todos.

The walls of Laxeiro have rebounded with the sound of your laughter and chatter, and joy.  It’s been a privilege to be part of those moments, and we will cherish them forever.

Salud to you all

The Best Tasting Experience!

Welcome to Laxeiro

Bienvenidos

This year we are celebrating 40 years of our homemade Spanish food on Columbia Road. Laxeiro for us is our kitchen, our dining room and home.
Visit us for Spanish food and wines made with love.

Our Story

Isabel Rios started serving her home cooked food on Columbia Road in 1982 after leaving the rural farm she’d grown up on in Galicia when she was 17.  Food was her passion in Spain and her dream was to continue her passion in London.  She opened her shop which was the first continental delicatessen in the East End of London. She turned the local community and beyond onto new and exciting foods and wines from Spain.

People would come from all over London and further afield to try her food, especially her home cooking. Over time, a corner of the deli where people would eat their lunch turned into a table. Soon, this grew to two tables, then three…

In time, the delicatessen evolved into a restaurant and alongside her son Eduardo, they opened the first restaurant in the Bethnal Green & Shoreditch area. Eduardo had grown up in his family’s deli kitchen and shared his mother’s passion for Spanish food and wines. Opening the first Spanish restaurant in East London wasn’t easy. Back then people thought we were crazy. “No one is going to go to the East End to eat out” they would warn us. 40 years on, East London is now a culinary destination and we are still proud as ever to serve our neighbourhood with delicious food and wines.
